In the heart of Wielkopolska, a dairy cooperative has quietly upheld Poland’s rich dairy heritage for over 85 years - faithfully and with pride. At Spółdzielnia Mleczarska Udziałowców w Strzałkowie, every product tells a story of local farmers, clean ingredients, and a philosophy rooted in authenticity, quality, and sustainability. This is not just a dairy - it is a living piece of culinary heritage.
A Local Circle of Trust
At SMU Strzałkowo, the word “local” is not a marketing term - it’s a way of life. Milk is sourced exclusively from trusted local farmers in the Słupca region, many of whom are also members of the cooperative. They sell their products to half of the Polish regions and it means their produce reach the bigger part of the Polish population. The result is complete control over the raw material, its traceability, and - most importantly - its quality. Their products include cream, butter, cottage cheese, natural yogurts, and even lactose-free variations, all made with no preservatives, no additives, and in keeping with traditional Polish recipes.
Each batch is crafted with care and precision, backed by ISO 22000 and HACCP certification. Every stage of the process is monitored through in-house laboratories, combining modern quality systems with traditional production methods.
Tradition and Innovation in Harmony
While the dairy proudly retains authentic techniques—including slow churning, natural fermentation, and single-ingredient recipes—it doesn’t shy away from innovation. Their lactose-free yogurt with the BB12 bacterial strain is a great example of meeting modern dietary needs without sacrificing taste or tradition. The freshness of their products, evidenced by intentionally short shelf lives, reflects their commitment to naturalness and clean label production.
Circular, Conscious, and Community-Based
SMU Strzałkowo’s vision extends far beyond the creamery. It operates as a model of circular and sustainable production - whey from the production process is turned into animal feed, photovoltaic panels supply energy, and an in-house wastewater treatment plant reduces environmental impact.
Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Recognised nationally with awards such as the “Teraz Polska” emblem and the Polish Food Producer Cup, the cooperative is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading forces in preserving dairy heritage. It’s not just about the past - it’s about building a responsible food culture for future generations.
Education and Engagement
The cooperative regularly collaborates with universities, schools, and local events, offering lectures and materials that promote traditional dairy production, zero-waste practices, and local food identity. Whether at regional fairs or international stages like Grüne Woche, SMU Strzałkowo proudly represents Wielkopolska's culinary roots on the world map.
This is more than a dairy. It’s a movement built on legacy, transparency, and a deep respect for both the land and the people it feeds.
