About the Tourism and Catering School in Split The Tourism and Catering School in Split was founded on 1st September 1960. The school provides education and training to approximately 650 Culinary Arts and Tourism students in different programmes: front desk clerks, food and beverage managers, waiters, cooks, pastry chefs and kitchen porters (students with learning difficulties) as well as continuing education and corporate training programmes for adults in the field of tourism and hospitality industry. There are 29 classes in our school: three of them are assistant chefs and assistant pastry chefs/waiters classes (pupils with learning difficulties), three waiters/waitresses classes, seven chefs/pastry chefs classes, eleven front office clerks (receptionists) classes, four food and beverage managers classes, and finally one tourism grammar school class. The Tourism and Catering School in Split is the first school in Croatia which has become the member of AEHT (European Association of Hotel and Tourism Schools). Students accompanied by teachers participate in various competitions, congresses, seminars and visits all over Europe. We collaborate with schools from Austria, Italy, France, Slovenia, Macedonia, etc. Our students have won numerous prizes, medals and diplomas at competitions. The school has participated in five mobility programmes within the framework of: COMENIUS (Portfolio 2011 - Greece), COMENIUS (B. Well with 5 partner schools 2013-2015), Erasmus+ (Move Your Body and Cook for Your Soul) with four other partners, Erasmus+ (Spice up Your Practice) and Erasmus+ (UNESCO Heritage 2014-2016) with six other school partners. During the school year 2017/2018 we are going to participate in two Erasmus+ KA2 projects. One of them is with Italy and Poland about the preparation of traditional food from our regions. The name of the project is "The Flavours of Regions". The other project includes Italy, Turkey, Romania, Greece and Portugal as partners and it is about using the English language in everyday (school) life. The name of the project is "English for Hospitality". Besides that, the school cooperates with the School of Tourism from Semmering, Austria in the project called the “Croatian Dinner in Semmering“ and the “Austrian Dinner in Split“. This cooperation is a good way to promote the tourist offer of both countries in the field of enogastronomy (the art of combining food and wine). During the past several years our students have won a number of prizes for best results in national and international Gastro competitions which resulted in positioning of our school among the top tourism and catering schools in Croatia (the presentation of tourist destinations, front office, bar discipline, wine presentation and menu serving). The Tourism and Catering School in Split has been participating in various professional fairs for a long period of time, such as Interstas (International Festival of Tourism, Film and Landscape), where our school was awarded the Golden Interstas Prize for a long and successful cooperation with the fair as well as the prize for the best short amateur film “A Stroll With Diocletian“; Gast – the fair of catering and hotel equipment, a manifestation called “Christmas in Europe” which took place in Zagreb where we showed traditional ways of celebrating Christmas in Split, Dalmatia; The Prosciutto Fair in Sinj, the County High School Food and Bar Presentation on the island of Vis, the culinary festival The Pearl of the Sea, the Barmen Cup in Karlovac, EuroSkills competition in Lyon, France in 2014, and in many other manifestations.
